All You Need To Know About The Distylium

The Distylium is a smaller evergreen shrub that requires very little pruning or attention. The Distylium is native to Asia but is non-invasive and can thrive under the right conditions in the Lowcountry!

Light Conditions: light shade to full sun

Size: can range from 3’ to 10’ depending on the variety

Flower: small maroon flowers in the Winter

Uses: many uses depending on the variety - hedge or border plant, single planting in landscape beds, potted

Pests & Diseases: generally pest and disease free, heat & drought tolerant

Varieties

Vintage Jade: smallest variety (3’ x 4’), glossy green foliage

Cinnamon Girl: small variety (3’ x 4’), new foliage is purple and matures to a green, more refined look than other Distylium due to smaller leaves

Emerald Heights: dark green foliage, larger variety that is recommended for hedges and borders ( 6’ x 6’)

Linebacker: tallest variety (8’ to 10’ tall x 6’x 8’ wide) with upright growth, new foliage is red and matures to a dark green
