What Can I Expect When Having A Paver Patio/Hardscape Project Done?

Paver hardscapes are a great way to enhance the look of your landscaping while increasing the functionality of it.

The first thing to note about a paver project, is that it there is more that goes into it than just laying down the pavers. The normal paver process includes:

  • Clearing out of existing material

  • 4-6-inch layer of gravel base for support

  • 1-inch layer of sand

  • Pavers Set

  • Polymeric sand brushed in the joints between the pavers to help the pavers stay in place

  • Sealant, if desired

If you are having landscaping done with with your paver project (pine straw, plant material, etc) this will come after your pavers have been installed.

Are there benefits to sealing my pavers?

  • Enhances the color and prevents fading

  • Helps resist stains

  • Binds the sand making it difficult for weeds to germinate and deters ants

  • Provides protection from salt, oil, grease, and harsh weather

  • Reduces deterioration and loosening of pavers or cracks to assure long lasting value

  • Easier cleaning

Is there any additional care that my pavers will need?

  • Periodic sweeping of leaves, sand, and other yard debris will help prevent organic stains

  • Low-pressure pressure washing or spraying with a hose will help with remove any stains or discoloration

Is there anything that I can do if weeds appear?

Weeds and grasses can occur if a seed gets lodged into the sand or joints of the pavers. Because of the gravel and sand base, it is highly unlikely that they are growing from underneath. If weeds do appear, you can hand pull them and/or use a spot treatment weed killer (this will not harm the pavers).

Will my pavers get hot during the summer months?

The short answer is, yes. The darker the color of paver, the hotter they will get. A great way to cool them down if you plan to be on them for an extended period of time is to hose them off.
