What Do I Do About Moles In My Yard & Is Dylox A Good Treatment Option?
Moles can be active most of the year but are very active as landscapes transition from dormancy to the growing season.
During a lawn’s transition from dormancy to the growing season (Winter into Spring), it can be increasingly difficult to treat for moles. Dormant grass is extremely easy for moles to tunnel through and the damaged areas do not immediately recover but most areas in lawns that have been damaged by moles will start to recover as the temperatures warm up and seasonal growth begins.
Is There A Solution to Moles In My Landscape?
While no application can guarantee the elimination of moles, there are a few treatment options with proven results in Lowcountry landscapes.
Generally, in early Spring, moles are eating insects that are buried deep in the soil. A grub-specific insecticide can help limit mole activity in lawns eliminating their food source. Dylox is a fast acting insecticide that offer curative control of white grubs, mole crickets, sod web worms & cut worms. It is know to be the fastest acting product on the market. Following irrigation, dead grubs can be observed as quickly as 24 hours after application.
Another option is to apply Talpirid, a mole bait. After identifying active tunnels, they are baited with poison that targets the moles themselves.
