Top Five Things To Know About The Plumbago

  • Incredibly hardy perennial: semi-evergreen

  • Dainty, blue flowers that bloom year-round

  • Attracts butterflies and birds

  • Deer/Pest/Disease Resistant & tolerant of Lowcountry growing conditions 

  • Will spread quickly when planted. Can be used as ground cover, in hedging, as a container plant, or as a climbing or hanging plant (1.00-3.00ft in height)

Pruning & Fertilizer

  • Cut back stems in late winter to encourage new growth for the coming season

  • Cut back to maintain shape and promote flowering during Summer months

  • After freezing, cut back to 3-6” above ground

  • Adding nitrogen fertilizer will encourage more blooms

Care & Maintenance

  • Will thrive in partial shade to full sun

  • Medium watering requirements (if the leaves begin to curl, the plant is being overwatered)

  • Watch for insects (aphids and spider mites)
